Web Design & Development

We are experts in creating bespoke websites to fit your exact needs. Using years of industry experience, we take your brief and distil it into the requirements for your website. We then work with you to design and develop a solution that fulfils the criteria you need to meet.

We don't use templates. We're not trying to fit your unique problem into an already implemented site. We spec, design, build and deliver the solution to your specific needs. That said, we are advocates of reuse — it allows us to keep your costs down and allows you to invest in developing other areas of your website.

HTML5

As standards evolve, so do we

We continually strive to keep ahead of the pack, especially when dealing with web standards. We keep up-to-date with new and evolving technologies as they become available. That's why we build websites using HTML5 and CSS3, as well as cutting edge JavaScript. Using the newest technologies allows us to provide the best, most up-to-date solutions for our clients. It also means we're constantly learning new practices as the technology evolves.

We're driven by a belief that everything on your website should be available to the user, no matter what technology they're using. That's why we build all our sites to allow for graceful degradation, ensuring older browsers can still access your content. We always suggest a responsive design to allow mobile users the same level of access.

Another of our principles is that everything we build should be as accessible as possible. We have standards and practices in place to ensure content is readable using a variety of assistive software and devices. We build sites following the government's Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) guidelines on web accessibility.

Open Source Software

Building on the shoulders of giants

All our systems are built using open source software. We favour a standard LAMP setup: Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP, all working in unison to serve websites. We mix in a range of trusted JavaScript libraries for extra utility. All this results in an agile, robust and scalable platform for development.

We've further built upon these technologies to create our in-house CMS, Mercury. Mercury provides the backbone on which we develop and run the websites we create. It's a tried and tested solution that allows us to build iteratively and quickly.

Search Engine Optimisation built in

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is often added to websites as an afterthought, or patched onto an existing solution at considerable expense. SEO should be part of the design from the outset. The structure and content of your site should be planned with these goals in mind from day one, and that's our focus at Red Wolf Digital. Foresight at the beginning of a project allows us to structure and build a site to be as SEO friendly as possible from the moment it launches.

We provide the means for you to actively tweak and change headers and meta data to improve your SEO ranking. Our suggestions and support on best practices and simple content changes can have a huge impact on your SEO over time.

We don't provide and certainly don't advocate the use of black-hat SEO techniques. We believe guidelines set out by search engines like Google and Bing are there for a reason. With adherence to these guidelines, we can provide a better experience for all web users.

Working with Red Wolf Digital

Working with us couldn't be easier. Although we prefer to be involved from the inception of any project, we're quite happy to come in at a later stage. Our early involvement allows us to suggest best practices, as well as advise on user interaction and functionality. A few little changes can give your website that extra finish that can make it more inviting.

Generally, we work using a loose framework that involves the following steps:

Initial Meeting What do you want

An initial meeting to discuss your thoughts on your project. Defining which problem you're trying to solve, and identifying your goals. It also allows us to determine if we're going to be a good fit when working together.

Brief What you need

We'll go away and flesh out a brief which describes the problem you're trying to solve, giving us a collective definition of the project that we can use for timings and cost estimates.

Proposal How we'll deliver it

Our next step will be to contact you with a first-draft solution to your problem. At this stage we begin the process of clarifying what you need.

Designs How it will work

After agreeing on a proposed solution, we then go on to produce designs, copy, and imagery. Anything that's required to fulfil the brief we've worked together to produce.

Approval An agreement to proceed

At this stage, we'll ask you to approve any assets we produce. You provide feedback, and after any revisions, you approve the final designs.

Development Creating your website

Development of your website begins. You'll receive progress updates at regular points along the project timeline. This will include links to test versions of your new site so you can see ongoing development.

Amends Tweaking the solution

Another round of amendments take place after the development stage. At this point, we fix any bugs and make small changes to the content.

Delivery Launching your new site

Once signed off, your website is ready to go live. This involves publishing it to a secure web server. Any required training on running your site via Mercury will be provided for you.
